author contests
There have been lots of fun author contests and editor/agent contests lately online. Here's one that's great because it gives you a chance to win lots of cool prizes and because it features many different authors:

The site is set up by goadingthepen to promote children's book authors, as well as her story in the finals of the ABC book competition. Spider and Fly by Sheri Goad is a fun story about friendship with great art by Roz Fulcher.
